Update from China - Days 5-8

Day 5 or our trip:  We visited a Kung Fu school where students gave a great demonstration of this Chinese Kung Fu.  Then our students had the opportunity to practice some basic techniques! We then traveled to the Great Wall - it was an experience of a lifetime!
Day 6:  We visited the Beijing Zoo and had a close encounter with a panda bear.  Next we explored the Summer Palace.  and in the afternoon, we had the opportunity to take a ride in a rickshaw through the narrow residential streets of old Beijing -he hutongs. As Student Ambassadors, we were invited to tea at a resident's home, were she answered questions about her way of life and her work.
To take a break for our delicious Chinese food, we had dinner at Hard Rock Cafe - Hamburgers!
Then we took an overnight train to Xi"an -four students per sleeping compartments made for a very interesting night!
Day 7: We arrived to Xi'an in the morning. As Student Ambassadors, we were honored with a welcome ceremony at the city gate by residents in full costume representing warriors and city officials.  This was the same ceremony performed during the Tang Dynasty to welcome foreign envoys when they arrived in Xi'an.
In the afternoon we visited a local school and interacted with the students and teachers.  This was truly a People to People moment, and our delegates excelled in their  role as ambassadors for our country.
Day 8 -  Big Wild Goose Pagoda - it was a wow moment!  Then on to the museum of the Famous Terracotta Warriors, considered the eight wonder of the world. As ambassadors, we were honored to have as a speaker one of the original farmers who discovered the Terracotta Warriors.
Last night we enjoyed a Tang Dyasty show and dumpling banquet.  The show was fantastic! Music, dancing, beautiful costumes!
Day 9- Today we travel to Donghan village, our homestay.
Please do not worry if you do not hear form your child in a while.  Telephone access is spotty and internet  is not always available.  All are doing well, and having a great time!
